Thank you for you comments on the Vegie Delights range, we hope the following answers your queries on the vegan status of our products.

Sanitarium has been committed to plant-based eating for over 100 years. At Sanitarium, we believe the best approach to eating is one that is predominantly based on a wide variety of nature's whole plant foods - and may also include a small amount of dairy and eggs.

The entire Vegie Delights range is suitable for lacto-ovo vegetarians. We are happy to tell you that there are some products in the Vegie Delights range that are suitable for vegans. The Vegie Delights products that are suitable for vegans include:

• Traditional Soy Sausage BBQ
• Traditional Soy Sausage Original
• Traditional Sausages Vegie
• Traditional Sausages Curried
• Chicken Style Sausages with Lime and Ginger
• Classic Hot Dogs
• Deli Luncheon Smoked
• Deli Luncheon Henchen
• Vegie Delights Roast with Rosemary and Mint Glaze

These products do not contain eggs or milk as ingredients, so they are suitable for vegans.

The Vegie Delights products of Lentil Patties and Garden Vegetable Patties do not contain eggs or milk as ingredients. However, these products carry a "may contain" statement for eggs and milk as they are made  within the same factory as products containing these ingredients. Some people following a vegan diet may find these products acceptable for consumption.

At Sanitarium, we are committed to making healthy and nutritious products to meet the needs of our consumers. A new Vegie Delights product recently launched, the Vegie Delights Roast with Rosemary & Mint Glaze is suitable for vegans. Furthermore, we are currently working on our manufacturing process to include more vegan products in the Vegie Delights range.

In response to your queries relating to flavour enhancer disodium ribonucleotide (additive 635) we hope the following provides you with some clarity.

Some products within the Sanitarium's Vegie Delights range use the food industry approved natural flavour enhancer 635.  Sanitarium goes beyond current legislation to identify the use of the enhancer on its labelling to assist consumers in making an informed decision about their food choices.

The natural flavour enhancer 635 is found naturally in foods like tomatoes, mushrooms, miso, soya sauce, sardines, anchovies, asparagus, cauliflower, legumes, meats and pulses.

Why do we use it? Using this natural ingredient enhances the natural savoury flavours in foods, thereby reducing the need for salt and eliminating the need to add MSG. 

The following Vegie Delights products do not contain additive 635:

• Bacon Style Rashers
• Deli Luncheon Smoked
• Garden Vegetable Patties
• Lentil Patties
